James Terry is senior vice president, business development of ground strategy at Cubic Global Defense (CGD). In this role, he is responsible for expanding business opportunities for Cubic’s ground training systems and services for the Army, Marine Corps, Special Operations and the Middle East region. He is also tasked with improving marketing communications as well as managing business teams to cross-sell Cubic products in foreign and domestic regions.
James joined CGD with more than 37 years of service in the U.S. Army, where he recently retired as Commanding General, U.S. Army Central Command/ U.S. Third Army in the rank of Lieutenant General. In his final assignment, he served as the three-star Army component commander to the U.S. Central Command and was dual hatted as the Commander, Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve.
James was commissioned into the U.S. Army as an Infantry Officer in 1978 and has commanded at every level through theater Army command during his distinguished career in the service. He has commanded and led Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines from over 50 nations during operations in Operation Inherent Resolve, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, among others.
James has received numerous U.S. Military awards and decorations including the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Distinguished Service Medal and the Legion of Merit. Additionally, he was awarded the Canadian Meritorious Service medal by the Canadian Governor General for support of Canadian forces in Afghanistan. James graduated from the National Defense University with a Master of Science in National Security Strategy and Policy. He also holds a Master of Arts in Business from Webster University and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management from North Georgia College.
