Deputy Chief Eric Smith is an accomplished and proven law enforcement administrator with an impressive 27-year career with the Orlando Police Department. Smith currently commands the Patrol Services Bureau, which includes four patrol divisions and over 500 sworn officers. He also proudly serves as the department’s High-Risk Incident Commander where he leads the following special teams: SWAT, Crisis Negotiations, Emergency Response, Emergency Services, Honor Guard, and the Crisis Intervention Team.
D.C. Smith is a former SWAT Commander and served on both K-9 and undercover drug units. As a member of the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigations team (a multi-jurisdictional task force), Smith led countless drug enforcement operations.
Smith has extensive experience with planning and leading large-scale operations and highly attended events. With more than twenty years of experience in high-risk and high liability tactical operations and incidents, Smith has proven himself to be a decisive leader.
Smith is an established published speaker who presents locally, nationally, and internationally. His knowledge, experience, dynamic approach, and leadership have earned him many accolades and awards.
Deputy Chief Eric Smith has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida, a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma, and completed the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy Session #269.
