“As a Veteran and mental health counselor, I greatly appreciate the work being done by The Camaraderie Foundation.”

“I just wanted to call and say thank you for providing this service to Veterans.”

“I was referred to the Camaraderie Foundation by my mother in law, when my husband (an OIF/OEF veteran) and I were struggling in our marriage.

I was struggling with the VA, I couldn’t get them to take his mental health seriously. He was distant and when we did interact it was always an argument. We argued about everything; the laundry, the kids, the dishes, dinner. You name it. He was feeling overwhelmed and taken over by his PTSD. I felt like I was walking on eggshells all of the time. Afraid of the next time I would trigger his PTSD.

I contacted The Camaraderie Foundation on March 29th. On March 30th I received a list of potential counselors. I called every name on the list until I found one that I felt comfortable with and understood the situation. Less than a week later I had my 1st appointment with a counselor.

I cried, hard, ugly tears the first 3 visits, but I left with new found knowledge and understanding on PTSD. I left feeling better about myself as a woman, wife and mother. I learned the importance of taking care of myself first and foremost. Its an issue that most wives and caregivers deal with, the “mom guilt”. In the following visits I learned how to communicate with my husband. How to help him feel less stressed and how to apply it to other parts of our lives, such as with our children. Our 3 year old is less stressed, less worried about daddy’s anger issues. He acts out less and looks forward to daddy coming home everyday. The family as a whole is happier, more peaceful. My days are more productive. My next step is getting out more and being a bit more social.

I don’t have the words to express how thankful I am to everyone at The Camaraderie Foundation. They’ve helped us more in 3 months than the VA has in 11 years.

From the bottom of my heart, to everyone at Camaraderie Foundation, and to the donors, Thank you so very much!

You’ve given me a new outlook. You’ve given me hope. Most importantly you’ve given me my husband back. ”

Thank you,

Maria Crider

“Thank you, Camaraderie, for bringing people together with same or similar problems.  It brings this community together.  Having a day to spend with family without an argument or misunderstanding is great for the families you support.”

“I am very grateful for the sensitivity your staff showed initially. You displayed an understanding that I’ve found to be unusual. You helped us and ultimately our marriage was saved as a result.”

“The Mentor Leadership Program is, in my opinion, an essential opportunity to make sure that you start your new phase as a civilian with advantages and insight that too many veterans are never afforded. Don’t pass the opportunity up.”

Barron Mills, Major USMC (Ret)
Mentor Leadership Class III Protégé

“Just letting you know that counseling is going great and I couldn’t have done it without this organization’s help, so I am saying thank you.  Please continue to bless other service members/families & help diminish the war on PTSD. If there is anything I can do or volunteer to show my gratitude, I’m just an email away. Thanks again & have a Wonderful Wednesday!!!”
